Centre for Health Education, Training and Nutrition Awareness (CHETNA)

For 30 years, CHETNA has been working in the area of adolescent and young people’s sexual and reproductive health (SRH). CHETNA has experience in developing educational and training materials and demonstrating innovative interventions to make SRH health information accessible to adolescents and young people. The organisation has also contributed to various policy, advocacy and networking initiatives at state, national and South Asia regional level and to the formulation process for the National Youth Policy 2010. CHETNA works with Alliance India on our Koshish programme.
Humsafar Trust (HST)

For nearly two decades, HST has worked with MSM and transgender communities in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It has successfully linked community advocacy and support activities to the development of effective HIV prevention and health services. It is one of the pioneers among MSM and transgender organisations in India and serves as the national secretariat of the Indian Network for Sexual Minorities (INFOSEM). The mission of HST is to take a holistic approach to the rights and health of sexual minorities and promote rational attitudes to sexuality. To this effect, HST’s work has four main components: HIV and overall health of MSM and TG; advocacy; research; and capacity building. To support the latter three components of HST’s mission, the organization has formed the Humsafar Centre for Excellence (CEFE). A Linking Organisation of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, HST works with Alliance India on Pehchan in five states of western India.
LEPRA Society (LEPRA)

LEPRA was established in India in 1989 to support the national health programmes in the prevention and control of diseases such as leprosy, tuberculosis, malaria, lymphatic filariasis, HIV/AIDS and blindness. It is a part of the worldwide LEPRA network, based in the United Kingdom, which is a member of the International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Association (ILEP). A Linking Organisation of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, LEPRA focusses its activities in communities that are marginalised or poor, especially women and children, young people, slum populations and migrants. LEPRA’s work in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar reaches a population of nearly 12 million people. The strategic areas of LEPRA’s work with the Alliance are on HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis. LEPRA works with Alliance India on Hridaya in Odisha and was a partner in CHAHA.
MAMTA Health Institute for Mother and Child (MAMTA)

MAMTA was established in New Delhi in 1990. A Linking Organisation of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, the MAMTA works in 14 states in India as well as in Nepal and Bangladesh. It has built the capacity of over 150 CBOs on issues related to sexual and reproductive health, HIV and care & support interventions, with a special focus on young people, children and women. It has also contributed significantly to policy and programme formulations at state and national levels especially on the issue of HIV. MAMTA’s mission is to empower underserved and marginalised individuals and communities through gender-sensitive participatory processes to achieve optimal and sustainable health and development. MAMTA’s strategic areas of work with the Alliance are focussed on women, children, adolescents and young people. MAMTA currently works with Alliance India on the Action Project and Koshish and was a partner in CHAHA and HCBCS.
Network of Maharashtra People with HIV (NMP Plus)

NMP Plus is a community-based organisation formed by people living with HIV (PLHIV). It works towards its mission of improving the quality of life and providing a sense of belonging to people living with HIV and their families for active participation in society, and to reduce further HIV transmission. Their work includes advocacy, service delivery and network building. NMP Plus is an implementing partner for Koshish and earlier collaborated with Alliance India on CHAHA.
Palmyrah Workers Development Society (PWDS)

PWDS was formed in 1977 to provide integrated services in the area of health, income generation, women’s empowerment, rural development and education. A Linking Organisation of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, PWDS views HIV not only as a health issue but as a development issue that should be addressed with a development agenda. Currently, PWDS implements 66 field projects, has promoted 11 support organisations, and works in 30 districts in Tamil Nadu through 44 partner NGOs. PWDS’ strategic areas of work with the Alliance are focussed on health and enterprise, care & support and microfinance. PWDS currently works with Alliance India on the Koshish project and was a partner in CHAHA and HCBCS.
For 20 years, Sangama has been assisting MSM, transgender and hijra communities to live their lives with self-acceptance, self-respect and dignity. Sangama lobbies for changes in existing laws that discriminate against sexual minorities and for changing public opinion in their favour. Sangama is an implementing partner for our Global Fund-supported Pehchan programme.
Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO)

SASO was formed in 1991 by a group of former injecting drug users seeking to lessen the impact of drug use and HIV in Manipur, a state in northeastern India. It envisions a society where the impact of drug use and HIV/AIDS are minimised and affected individuals and communities have access to health care and can enjoy their basic human rights. SASO’s strategic areas of work with the Alliance lie in harm reduction, integration with care & support, and orphan and vulnerable children. SASO currently works with Alliance India on the Action Project, Chanura Kol and Hridaya and was a partner in CHAHA.
Solidarity and Action Against The HIV Infection in India (SAATHII)

With offices in five states and over 10 years of experience, SAATHII’s focus is technical support for organisations working with MSM, TG and hijra programming. SAATHII works closely with the West Bengal State AIDS Control Society (SACS) and the State Technical Support Unit. The organisation is the SACS-designated State Training and Resource Centre for MSM, transgender and hijra programming. SAATHII is an implementing partner for our Global Fund-supported Pehchan programme.
South India AIDS Action Programme (SIAAP)

SIAAP brings 21 years of experience with community-driven and community development focussed programmes, counselling, advocacy for progressive policies, and training to address HIV and wider vulnerability issues for MSM, transgender and hijra community.

SIAAP is an implementing partner for our UNDP-supported Sashakt programme and our Global Fund-supported Pehchan programme.
Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM)

VMM has been working to help women, children and youth in Andhra Pradesh since 1969. It implements HIV-related programmes in ten districts, mainly focussed on the needs of women living with HIV, young people, maternal and child health, safe motherhood and integration of HIV services in the wider area of sexual and reproductive health (SRH). Its vision is to promote comprehensive social, economic and political development for women, children and youth in vulnerable situations, thereby empowering communities in Andhra Pradesh to improve their quality of life and build a better civil society in India. A Linking Organisation of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, VMM currently works with Alliance India on the Koshish and was a partner in CHAHA and HCBCS.
