Technical Support Model
The South Asia Hub aims to improve access of civil society organisations (CSOs) to high quality technical support in order to scale up and improve national and regional HIV & AIDS responses. The hub works through direct support relationships with CSOs in the region and by working with donors on technical support grants and contracts. The hub has built strong relationships with other technical support providers in the region, including both for-profit (KPMG, Ernst and Young, Futures Group) and not-for-profit (Family Health International, Save the Children, and Johns Hopkins University) entities and uses these partnerships to draw on respective comparative advantages to ensure more effective provision of technical support.

Technical support is provided by both in-house experts (staff of Alliance India and Alliance Linking Organisations in the region) and experienced external consultants, often working together as a team. The hub is also committed to expanding the pool of consultants in the region by identifying promising candidates and building their capacity through direct involvement in technical support projects and through training workshops and online courses.

The South Asia Hub focuses on key thematic areas where it believes it can add value to the HIV and AIDS response in the region, maintaining the Alliance’s commitment to community involvement. The hub’s approach expands the capacity of CSOs to recognise and develop their strengths and build their systems and processes to implement programmes more effectively in an ever changing policy and donor environment. The overall objective of the technical support provided through the hub is to strengthen leadership and capacity of civil society to respond effectively to HIV & AIDS.
